Marit Fält & Rona Wilkie
Marit Fält and Rona Wilkie join forces to create an exciting and innovative new duo which explores the traditions of their homes – Scotland and Scandinavia.
As of 2012 this pair are collecting accolades, not only did they win a Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections, Rona went onto be crowned the BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year on the same evening. Rona is an exceptional fiddle player and Gaelic singer from the Highlands, who has a great drive behind her playing, and is also able to slow it down to tease the beauty of slower airs. She is at the forefront of the wave of players embracing the rhythmic capacities of the fiddle through her extensive use of chopping and other accompaniment techniques.
Marit is a hugely dynamic and inventive Låtmandola and cittern player from Norway, of Swedish parents. She captures both the elegance and raw beauty of Norwegian and Swedish traditional music whilst bringing a great rhythmic intensity to her approach to Scottish music. She also plays in the new trio Vamm with Catriona MacDonald and Patsy Reid and with outstanding fiddle-singer Kate Young. Together, this pair complement each other to form a duo which brings a new perspective on traditional music from both sides of the North Sea.
